At home hair..

Every hairstylist has their pet peeves.  I must be honest in admitting that I have a lot. A huge one for me is at home hair. Whether it be diy ombre, a home hackjob or the cheap thinning shears route, it drives me crazy! A client sat down in my chair and I immediately noticed the breakage everywhere and asked if she wore ponytails etc. She said she didnt so the whole cut, I'm left wondering why her hair is in shambles.. then she spills.  She has thinning shears at home and goes to town on what she thinks is thick. Part of me is relieved it's not something serious and the other part is in disbelief that this woman found thinning shears at ross and THOUGHT THAT WAS OKAY. I'm allowed to get heated over awful hair :) I spend hours thinking and writing and scribbling and typing post ideas and while this doesnt have pretty pictures, I believe it needed to be said :) getting it out there. Please leave these things to the professionals! We are professionals for a reason and went to school for this ;) seeing that breakage is a huge problem for a lot of people and one of my major pet peeves, this is just the first post addressing it. Maggie Eckford

What can I even say?! I hope you've heard of her and if you haven't, hop on google and look her up. She is gorgeous, talented and half of an adorable couple that will make you gush. She is most certainly on my list of people that I shall meet one day. Somehow, I do have a friend who indirectly knows her boyfriend and has met her. He actually just sent me a snap of my signed cd he keeps forgetting to get to me. If you ever see this, Maggie, I'm the jersey fan :) Enough of that and onto Maggie!! First of all, her hair is every hairdressers dream! Always flawless looking. (I'd also love to meet her hairdresser! ) Second, her voice is so unique and it just draws you in. Sometimes I find myself in my car having had listened to the whole disc 3 times. She will surprise you, I promise!! If you haven't heard of her, you have most definitely heard of the other half! On top of all of these things, she seems to be just an all around great person! She is always so positive and uplifting on twitter and also posts quotes/ verses. Definitely someone to look up to. Someday R will use those connections for me to meet the both of them! :P

Fringe

I must say, I am quite proud of myself! A couple of months ago I didn't want to be alone and wouldn't go anywhere by myself and today, I spent the whole morning alone :) I went shopping by myself and not just because no one would go with me. Just because :) I'm really happy and feel as though I've come pretty far! Anyway.. what I wore:)

Fellow hairdressers?

Are there any other hairdressers out there who don't have the heart to charge family? Am I the only one? When I first started it was understandable because I was learning but then you come to that point where this is now your career. Even my parents pay me. What don't they understand? My aunt and uncle just recently visited when I came home from Delaware. She was so hesitant but nicely asked if I could find the time to do her hair. Of course I did and it turned out beautiful! The problem is, when I go to visit them in March, everyone and their mom will be lined outside the door waiting for free services. Cousins I didn't even know I had. How do you guys deal with it? haha I don't want to be rude but they expect (in a 2 day trip) for me to do 3 haircuts and ombre color. Doesn't sound like much but they don't live near a cosmoprof and sally's is over 30 minutes away. Not to mention that I've never highlighted my cousin's hair so I have NO idea what she pulls and if I will need to tone her/ what toner I'll have to use. How do other stylists handle this? Advice please?

Style Inspiration

The lovely Rachel Bilson just recently beat out my former favorite person and role model, Lauren Conrad.. Although, she is still second :) When the OC came out, I wasn't allowed to watch it, much like many other shows and movies. I was in a movie stop a few months ago and saw the first season. I was so tempted. Afterall, I am grown now so I can watch what i want:P I decided to wait and looked on ebay to see if I could find it a bit cheaper. I found one and bought it immediately. I was thrilled to see that it was on my door step within a few days. I finished the first season in a couple short days and there, started my rachel bilson obsession. She has come so far since her OC days. Yeah, Summer dressed cute in the seasons but I feel as though she is just so chic and timeless. She can make absolutely anything look adorable. I find that, in most of her pictures, you can't even tell that she is a mere 5'2 because she has such a good sense of fashion. This girl really knows how to dress herself and her body type. Here are some of my favorite pictures of her and her amazing style. Don't even get me started on that hair! LOVELOVELOVE

I've been thinking for a while about whether or not I want to get back into a salon.. Today I just told my mom that I want to do it on the side because I'm already having signs of carpal tunnel along with all the other issues ha. What are the chances I meet a hairdresser today randomly? I told her I loved her hair and we ended up talking about salons. She asked if I did my hair myself and then told me to not give up on hair. That was just what I needed<3 here's my hair :)

My mom went from blonde and lying to herself about her natural haircolor to a red brown. From there, she decided to go darker and then eventually black. This picture is obviously before the black but we didn't get a picture of it.

Now :) She only wanted a touch up but i ended up having a good amount of color left so i went in and only painted the mid shaft and left the ends out. It resulted in a subtle variation of ombre and i love it!
