maintaining ombre

I love my ombre but don't know how to maintain it. I love rachel bilson's with the really dark roots but my natural hair isn't that dark.. which makes it annoying to touch up. Also, the ends are like platinum so i think i might put some more brown in between so it's more like highlights..
